I was thinking of taking scuba lessons and then buying my own gear since I recently got a job at an airport and I’ll be able to fly to many gorgeous locations for free. I thought diving would be my perfect hobby and see how many locations i can get to in a year. But Im not exactly sure how it works. Do I need to pay to dive somewhere even if i have my own equipment? How much is equipment to begin with? I guess im just looking for a price on equipment in total for now
Getting Certified can be done for under $200.00. They should include basic snorkeling gear. If you are on a budget, you can begin by renting gear from them, as this will also forego an investment should you decide you’re not comfortable with diving.
Once you have some experience, the sky is the limit for gear. Rather than pay retail, I have had some success on Craigslist. You do need to understand what you are buying, and it’s always a good idea to have your local dive shop inspect, repair, and certify your BCD, Regulator, and other life saving equipment.
Go For IT! Diving is better than anything on land in my opinion. Very Beautiful and Calm, as long as you are relaxed. Better than S–!!!!!

I have a pair of Aqualung Caravelles, and while I like them just fine, I would like to know which fin you all wear, and why you like them. My next gear investment might have to be a new pair of fins, for the simple reason that the Caravelles are quite long and take up a great deal of room in my gearbag.
Also, what do you think of the split fins like ScubaPro’s twin jets? Are they really that much better or different from the typical fins?
Thanks!
I’m so sad because this is my first non-diving weekend since Sept. 9… I’m sick today!!
hey….I’m from the old school where i still wear single full fins…i have tried the split fins and what a difference! i haven’t tried the ones you’ve spoke of, to tell the truth i haven’t seen them yet but its been since the summer since Ive been in the dive shop…my old fins are long also, being I’m over 6′ my instructor thought that they might help give me better propulson…lol…after trying the split fins, there is no way I’m going back to them except for an emergency…lol…hey I’m jealous where do u live that you can dive everyday…lol…p.s try a larger type of duffel for your fins, its mesh and you can store them better with some of your gear

Im a pretty Hufty guy 6′3 260lbs and my friend is 5′10 315lbs we were thinking of taking suba diving lessons together but were wondering if they would even have wetsuits that would fit us? (wet suites and needed to take the course) Anyone think I’ll have a problem with this? Also what a great company to choose from? or a company that would fit me
First you need to decide where you want to learn to dive, then do a search for places that will teach you, Email/call them and explain to them your sizes and they will/should be able to sort you out. PADI is about the most common for courses, and have locations all over the world. If you decide to take it up then it may be worth getting your suits made for you, they will be a more expensive, but you wont have any problems with dive places not having your size.
Have fun

I am buying equipment for the first time and I am not sure which items are better to buy compared to others. For BC vests I am pretty sure I would like to buy the pearl model by aqualung but I don’t know what the pros and cons for the i3 would be, I have never used that system before. For regulators I am looking at the Mikron and the titan LX supreme. For dive computers I am looking at Gekko and Vyper, also I do not know whats better a 2 gauge unit or a wrist mounted one. Any input or information about personal experience with one of these products would be a great help since I am new at this. Thanks!!!
A Mikron like this one works great for me http://bit.ly/7aaL9 . Oceanic makes a good dive computer and has big readouts.Personally i perfer the wrist mounted unit.

Do you know how to get a modified diving fin for amputated toes?
He actually should not need to modify his fins. If he uses open heel fins, there should be enough adjustment in the fin strap to compensate for the lost toes to make it fit comfortably. He may need to invest in a smaller booty for that foot though so that it fits properly.

I can take the regulator out of my mouth, but when I put it back in my mouth, water gets into my mask and I suck it up my nose. I am also terrified to let water into my mask. because I have trouble not breathing through my nose. I love divng, but until I can complete these skills I cannot continue with my certification. I wish I was more comfortable under the water, but I don’t know how to get over my fear. I have tried practicing in the bathtub, using only the snorkel, but I still suck water up my nose. And advice??? SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE.
Ok, first of all y do u get water into ur mask when u put on ur regulator. Second, i remember when i was learning to scuba dive, we wud do the following to get rid of water in mask. Look up, press down with one hand on the top of the mask and blow out throgh ur nose. THis shud clear all the water without u losing the mask

I am pretty much running out of my trash Teddy Kennedy jokes. Hopefully this mourning love fest won’t go on too much longer.
I feel sorry for her family. It’s a shame a whitewash was done on the matter, anyone but Kennedy would have been in jail. How about an avatar of Mary Joe in Heaven water-boarding Kennedy. I hope he goes to Heaven and is forgiven, as we all hope we are, but a little payback would be in order. God bless and keep them both.
