if you want scuba lessons do you have to buy the gear to?
i want to scuba dive do i need to pay for the lessons and for all the equipment as well as the lessons or do i get to borrow equipment
Most lessons will provide the equipment you need to use. You can always rent some. If you are getting serious about diving then you might want to buy some and do your lessons with them so you are familiar with them.
I would reccomend getting your own goggles and snorkel.

Here in Austin, TX, certification cost $150 plus the cost of mask, snorkel and fins. These items can cost $100 and up.
All the rest of the gear, tank, bcd, regulator, computer, etc, is borrowed from the dive shop and is included in the $150.

As far as I know, you do not have to buy any of the basic gear.
You can check to see if the lesson include the use of the basic diving equipment. Most dive shops will also rent you the gear for the class.
You can check with your friend to see if you can use some of their basic gear. Later on you may want to get your own gear as not to constantly adjusting them to fit you.
Mask, fins, snorkel, booties are part of your basic gear. these are also you basic snorkeling gear. If you need corrective lenses, you can have them installed in your mask.
