can i bring scuba gear from new zealand to the states?

i am moving to the states in nov. the only thing i own that is worth anything is my Scuba Gear is there anything i need to know to get it through customs?

General answer: no, there is nothing special needed. It’ll be just as though you were going on holiday and would be diving.

Slightly longer answer: check with the airline about your tank, if you own one. It may have to be depressurized.
And you will want to *not* bring your weights with you unless there’s something very special about them. You’ll pay as much or more for the excess baggage weight charge as it will cost you to replace them when you get here. Sell them to a friend there in NZ and use the money to buy new when you get here.

Welcome to the US! I hope you like where you’ll be living.

What kind of scuba gear should I rent or buy?
