Personally, I’d be checking into some of your local dive shops. Many, especially those that also have an in house dive club, will offer used gear on consignment, that belongs to local members. You’ll still get the deal that used gear goes for and as a bonus since the dive shop is promoting it, it’ll be in good, safe condition. They’ll want it that way because they’d also like to have you back as a regular customer for any other gear needs.
Buying privately off a website classified may save a tiny bit of money but you won’t be sure the gear is in good shape until you take it in for service. That service may then cost you what you saved by purchasing privately, perhaps more if it requires repair. Will you be able to get your money back from the person that sold it to you? Worse…did you find out the hard way there’s an issue with it?
Here’s a link with a few SA dive shops, a number of them in the Johannesburg area.
