Scuba Gear & Snorkling?? There is a piece that goes in your mouth and it curves upward and there is a hole in?
the top so that you can get air. I noticed that people go under water, doesn’t water go in the hole? how is that beneficial? won’t you choke on water or breath it in? how does that piece work exactly?
That piece is called the snorkle. It allows you to swim on the surface and breathe while keeping your face under the water. You hold your breath when you go under and you exhale, blowing the water out of the snorkle, when you re-surface. You can only use either the snorkle mouthpiece or the scuba mouthpiece at one time, not both at once.

Actually when you go in the water, the snorkle apparently stops taking water in, you can actually try putting a cup in water, see what happens, it’s kind of like the way a snorkle works. But just to let you know, snorkles are more tube-like so water won’t really go in in that there is such a small amount of space, but when you exhale you won’t exactly be able to do that under water, there is also a piece on the snorkle which connects you to a "i dont know what it’s called" that is connected to an air tank from which air is installed in which you are able to brean from, kind of like an air mask, the piece you put on the snorkel, The snorkel is used to breath air out and the "air mask" is used to breathe in air. I hope you get it. When I told you the part to experiment with a cup, it think a tube-like structure will work better but I think you’ll get the idea. I like letting people try experiments and get the outcomes like that instead of getting straightforward answers, it’s much more fun to discover for yourself.

That is a snorkel. The snorkel is used on the surface so that you do not waste air while on the surface. You are able to have your face in the water and not use you air, which is in a tank on your back.
The thing that you breath out of is called a regulator. The regulator is connected to the air tank via a valve. It does not fill with water unless you take it out of your mouth.
