How to best equalize underwater when scuba diving?

How do you equalize when the regulator is in your mouth (so your mouth is open and can’t be shut)? I can equalize (pinching nose and blowing) BUT with my mouth closed, like when I’m on an airplane. I don’t know how to do the same when something is forcing your mouth open and allowing you to breathe freely through it.

What you are trying to achieve is called the ‘Valsalva Manoeuvre’ where your nostrils are closed and pressure is blown against them. You should be able to do this even with an open mouth as you are not expelling air through your mouth. Practise breathing through your nose with your mouth open WITHOUT letting air pass through you mouth. When you can do this it will be a simple matter to pinch your nose and equalise normally.
Another way to equalise is to swallow, though this technique sometimes fails me personally it often works for others. You can even try a combination of both the above – good luck.

What are the top 5 scuba diving brands names in order?
