Taking lessons is essential if you want to get the most and have a safe enjoyable experience when scuba diving. You will normally start in the classroom where you will be shown the techniques before moving into the pool and start using scuba gear. If you are a beginner you will be able to hire scuba equipment and that way you will not have to pay out a large amount of money buying new equipment and then finding out you can not carry on, because scuba diving is not for everyone. Padi courses are the way most people learn to scuba dive.

You need to be in reasonable health and obviously not be afraid of the water but some people find they just do not like using the breathing equipment or wearing the mask. So try it out first before buying any scuba gear.

Once you are happy that you will be able to dive, you can then decide on the scuba equipment you need. Doing your research first is essential. Ask experienced divers or your instructor about the type of equipment they use. Where you are going to dive is important when considering your equipmment. Some of the equipment such as the mask can be used in most environments but the temperature of the water will influence some of the gear you will need.

The main piece of kit you will need, sometimes call Scuba Gear or rig, comprises of a scuba tank, a dive regulator and a buoyancy control. You will also need an exposure suit and this is the item where you need to check out the temperature of the water you will be diving before buying.

You will also need a mask, a snorkel, a dive watch and dive computer
and fins.

Some of these pieces of equipment can be incorporated together, your computer can come as part of your scuba gear or they can be purchased as stand alone items.

Once you are more experienced there are other pieces of equipment you may want such as knives , lights, flags and photography equipment and the best advice we can give you is to speak to other experienced divers before you buy and to buy the best quality scuba gear you can afford.
